The Wankel rotary engine technology used by Mazda is well-known in the automotive industry. 

Although Mazda stopped using rotary technology in its production cars in June 2012 when the RX-8 sports car

phased out, the company has revived it with a range-extending generator for the MX-30 electric vehicle.

Mazda and rotary engines are almost interchangeable. To the dismay of enthusiasts,

 the carmaker used rotary technology in their renowned RX sports vehicles from the late 1970s

Mazda's rotary technology is resurfacing, despite the fact that the RX line has not yet been brought back.
